The Centre for Social Assistance Statistics was founded by the President of Statistics Poland within the organisational structure of the Statistical Office in Kraków on 9 April 2009 to conduct nationwide surveys in the area of social assistance.

The Centre for Social Assistance Statistics focuses on issues related to the social assistance benefits system, social protection infrastructure, child care and family care, and pro-family measures. The Centre’s staff develop and refine the methodology of disability statistics from a legal perspective. In addition, the Centre collects and analyses nationwide data on social protection in the scope of the European System of Integrated Social Protection Statistics (ESSPROS).

The tasks of the Centre for Social Assistance Statistics include:

  • providing statistical data on social assistance to users;
  • participating in the development of methodology, the organisation of statistical surveys and the production of reports on social assistance statistics;
  • actively collaborating with the academic community to advance or expand statistical research in the field of social assistance;
  • providing substantive oversight and coordinating nationwide surveys on social statistics;
  • preparing current publications, statistical analyses and other resulting information related to social assistance;
  • identifying the demand for statistical data on social assistance;
  • contributing to the development of the statistical survey programme of official statistics on social assistance;
  • cooperating with domestic and international institutions and organisations responsible for designing and implementing social policy;
  • promoting social statistics.
