Tasks

The Centre’s responsibilities include, in particular:

  • conducting work related to the organisation, implementation, and development of statistical surveys concerning transport and postal services, including the development of methodologies, data collection, processing, analysis, and dissemination, as well as monitoring phenomena and processes occurring in these areas. In the field of transport, the Centre's activities cover issues such as transport infrastructure, transport and transhipment capacity, the performance of individual modes of transport, and the results of their activities. In the area of postal services, activities include monitoring the condition and development of postal infrastructure as well as the level of services provided;
  • developing conceptual and methodological solutions, as well as initiating, modifying, and developing statistical surveys, including implementation of new data sources and methods of their collection;
  • identifying, monitoring, and utilising non-statistical sources, in particular administrative data, in order to support statistical surveys, develop the public statistics information resources, and ensure the availability of data necessary to monitor new phenomena, trends, and areas of transport activity;
  • cooperating with the scientific community to advance methodology and improve the method of identification, observation, and description of transport-related phenomena in statistical surveys;
  • collaborating with institutions and organisations responsible for shaping and implementing transport policy, in particular with government and local government authorities, in order to identify information needs, assessing the possibilities of satisfying them within official statistics, and providing data as well as analyses supporting decision-making and planning processes in the field of transport;
  • cooperating with Eurostat, national statistical offices of other countries, and international organisations in the scope of fulfilling statistical obligations and developing transport statistics. This cooperation includes, in particular, adapting national statistical surveys with international requirements, including those arising from the European Union legislation, as well as implementing projects and experimental work aimed at improving official statistics;
  • compiling and disseminating the results of statistical surveys in the field of transport and postal services, including publishing and preparing data activities, analyses, and statistical information for individual needs of external users;
  • participating in the exchange of knowledge and experience concerning transport and disseminating the results of statistical surveys, including active participation in scientific conferences, seminars, and other industry events.
