Tasks
The tasks of the Centre include, among others:
- organizing statistical surveys on the maritime economy and inland waterway transport, including: the maritime transport fleet, sea transport of cargo and passengers, quays, ship traffic, passenger traffic and cargo turnover in seaports, inland waterways, floating stock, as well as transport of cargo and passengers by inland waterways;
- preparing conceptual and methodological solutions, modifying existing surveys, and introducing new surveys, new sources and methods of statistical data acqusition, aimed at advancing or expanding statistical surveys in the field of the maritime economy and inland waterway transport;
- monitoring non-statistical information resources and undertaking work to facilitate the use of data held in administrative sources for statistical purposes;
- cooperation with the scientific community, aimed at advancing or expanding conducted statistical surveys in the field of the maritime economy and inland waterway transport;
- cooperation with institutions and organizations responsible for designing and implementing policies in the field of the maritime economy and inland waterway transport, in particular with government and local government authorities, as well as maritime offices, with a view to identifying information needs, satisfying them, and integrating. Coordination statistical surveys, as well as acquiring data within the scope of maritime and inland waterway transport statistics;
- cooperation with data users and other institutions participating in data collection in the field of fisheries, the shipbuilding industry, classified ships (Polish and foreign) as well as inland waterway transport; in particular with the National Marine Fisheries Research Institute, the Ship Design and Research Centre, the Polish Register of Shipping, and inland navigation offices;
- cooperation with economic entities and other users of statistical information, aimed at identifying information needs, satisfying them, and making progress in the field of maritime and inland waterway transport statistics;
- cooperation with Eurostat, the national statistical offices of other countries and other international organisations in the field of maritime statistics, including contributing to the development of a maritime and inland waterway transport statistics system compliant with the requirements of European Union statistics;
- preparation of publications and analytical reports on Polish maritime and inland waterway transport statistics.
- conducting analyses and assessments of developments in the maritime economy and inland waterway transport, including the production of macroeconomic estimates.
- popularizing maritime and inland waterway transport statistics by active participation during scientific conferences.
